Toothbrush 'can help with whitening'
Updated: 9/3/2008 6:00:38 PM

Toothbrush The makers of a new power toothbrush claim that it can help with tooth whitening if used over a period of at least two weeks.

Philips Sonicare created the HealthyWhite sonic toothbrush to help consumers brighten the color of their teeth and remove stains.

It works by alternating between two frequencies to produce two distinct waves of speed. The company says that using this method over 14 days can lighten teeth by two shades and eliminate stains caused by coffee, tea, red wine and tobacco.

"Today, people want their teeth to be attractive and healthy - and attractive teeth are white teeth," commented Ron Tiktin, director of customer marketing at Philips Sonicare.

Dr Barbara J. Steinberg of Drexel University College of Medicine suggested that the toothbrush could be a whitening alternative for those who are averse to using "harsh chemicals or messy treatments."

In addition to whitening toothbrushes, there are a number of toothpastes on the market that claim to help lighten teeth and remove staining.
