Dental-themed rap music aims to reach kids
Updated: 8/18/2008 10:00:19 AM

A Tennessee dentist is set to release a rap album that deals with issues of a purely dental nature, such as the importance of brushing.

Calling himself Big Doc, Marrio Thomas wants to use his music to encourage youngsters to practice good oral health habits as they dance and enjoy themselves, the Memphis Commercial Appeal reports.

The album, which is slated for release in September, includes titles such as "Pulling Teeth for the Hood" and "Brush Yo Donkey Teeth."

Thomas told the publication that his early experiences of working as a dentist in an underprivileged area inspired him to appeal to patients at a younger age.

"[I] decided that I needed to reach children and get them to see how important it is to take care of their teeth," he explained.

Big Doc has already entertained audiences at nearly a dozen junior high schools.

The American Dental Association's website offers an oral health curriculum for educators who want to incorporate it into their classroom.
