Veneers are one of the most popular choices among Americans wanting a straight, white Hollywood smile.
However, in order to fit them the patient's teeth have to be filed down, a painful and irreversible procedure.
A new technology is now offering people the chance to get all the benefits of veneers, without the invasive procedure.
Lumineers are strong, paper-thin porcelain veneers designed to fit on the surface of existing teeth, leaving the structure uncompromised.
Cosmetic dentist Dr Michael McCarty of Austin Smiles has recently introduced Lumineers into his practice, describing them as "a perfect example of how modern engineering can aid medicine in very practical ways - it is a great leap forward and offers a great alternative to traditional methods".
"I am very excited about this technique, as I believe it improves the quality of a person's life while being safe and painless," he added.
On average Lumineers can be fitted in only two visits and should last for over 20 years.
Veneers, or Lumineers, are recommended for people with a number of dental problems, including stained or damaged teeth.
In addition, they can be used to close gaps between teeth or give crooked teeth a straight appearance, although experts recommend that orthodontics will provide a more long-term solution to the latter problem.
