Colgate-Palmolive is kicking off its national campaign to promote the importance of good oral hygiene with a comedy show that will have children laughing as well as learning about how to keep their teeth healthy and white.
The program is being launched in the San Francisco Bay area and draws attention to the recent survey by the Dental Health Association that revealed that the oral health of children in California was worse than national objectives. Americans overall were also found to have declining oral health as those in the country with untreated tooth decay began to rise this decade after a 50-year improving trend in Americans' dental health.
To entertain as well as educate, Critics Choice Award Winner and Hairspray star Nikki Blonsky will amuse children along with the Laughing Stock Comedy Company to perform improvisational routines along with audience participation.
Along with the entertainment, a Colgate mobile dental van will be on site to provide students with oral health education and treatment referrals.
Vice president of global oral health and professional relations for Colgate, Dr. Marsha Butler, said: "For children between the ages of five and 17 in the U.S., tooth decay is more common than asthma, more common than hay fever, and it poses a significant threat to our children's overall health and well-being."
