Find The Right Dentist For You
There's been an interesting move in the field of oral care lately, as some dentists are trying to change their practices to make them "greener." Mother Jones recently reported on Nathan Swanson, a New Hampshire dentist, who said set out five years ago to create a dental practice that would use mostly organic and recyclable materials and tools.
According to the news source, Swanson uses corn-based spit cups and biodegradable toothbrushes, among other natural tools.
"All the offices, in all the roads, in all the states, in all the countries, it's a phenomenal amount of waste," he told Jones reporter James West. "You know, I might not be able to change everybody's way of doing business or practicing dentistry. But I'm certainly going to change mine."
Ina Pockrass, the co-founder of the Eco-Dentistry Association, told the news source that Swanson is one of about 700 dentists across the country who are now trying out greener practices.
The Center for Natural Dentistry states that some other green choices dentists can make is to have reusable towels, paperless records and bio-hazard disposal policies that help ensure that no environmentally harmful toxins are getting thrown away carelessly.
