Bad breath could lead to a bad New Year's Eve
Updated: 12/23/2010 1:00:04 PM

Maintain good dental health for a festive New Year As New Year's Eve approaches, some people may be scrambling for a date, forcing them to either wing it on the big night or trust some of their friends to set them up on a blind date.

However, no matter what these last-minute daters do, one thing they might want to consider is their dental health.

Without routine or proper dental care, plaque buildup can form in a person's mouth and eventually lead to gingivitis, which can be the start of habitual bad breath. And having bad breath on the night the ball drops in Time's Square in New York City can quickly turn it into "Pew" Year's Eve.

There are a number of things people can do to avoid such an embarrassing scene, including using dental floss as well as brushing twice a day. In fact, this could lead to a new year's resolution, provided the kiss at midnight goes well.

Though this may be good advice for a New Year's Eve date, adhering to proper dental care is important for one's overall health as well. Tooth decay is a serious condition and, if left untreated, can lead to heart disease.
