Efforts increase to provide more children with dental care According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, more than 19 percent of children between the ages of 2 and 19 have untreated cavities. Some dental offices are expanding their facilities to provide more services for these individuals.

For example, The Destin Log reports that Fort Walton Beach Hospital in Destin, Florida will receive $263,000 to build a new dental clinic inside the Okaloosa County Health Department.

The Health Department's goal is to expand services, as the new building will include eight dental chairs to help provide care for more individuals, but will focus mostly on oral care for children. According to the news source, construction for the facility could begin in the spring and will take approximately 4 to 5 months to finish.

Karen Chapman, the county's health directory, told the news source that there is a "very, very high demand and need more capacity." She adds that dental care for children is "a major public health issue."

Families who need to find low-cost plans so they can provide their children with the proper dental care can find affordable plans through discount dental plans.
