Dental care appointment post Easter may benefit children's health
Updated: 4/8/2010 9:00:34 AM

Dental care appointment post Easter may benefit children Now that the Easter holiday has passed, it's safe to say that some households in America may be packed with a deluge of leftover candy and desserts from the weekend, which can wreak havoc on one's dental health.

This may be particularly true of children who used the holiday weekend as an opportunity to take in an extra handful of chocolate or cake. Parents who are concerned about the overall health of their little ones may want to start by limiting the amount of leftover candy that is in the house, as well as scheduling an appointment with a dentist.

According to the American Dental Association, childhood tooth decay is the single most common chronic childhood disease. Dental checkups can help prevent or reduce the incidence of decay by the dentist applying sealants to a child's teeth.

One way to help convince children to curtail the amount of Easter candy they eat is for parents to lead by example. Some parenting experts have suggested that fathers and mothers who participate in healthy eating habits and daily teeth cleanings with their children have experienced more success in encouraging these habits with their offspring.
