Some people have trouble paying for dental care, particularly in today's turbulent economy but some dentists and volunteers are coming together to provide dental services.
According to Baltimore's CBS channel affiliate, WJZ, at the University of Maryland's dental school, students, dentists and volunteers donated time and services to the needy.
For one day, nonprofits helped the teams with organizing dental care and dental exams and 150 people managed to receive treatment, the news provider reports.
Dr Nancy Ward of the dental school highlighted the importance of good dental care because "the teeth are not separated from the body" and she believes that "95 percent of dental disease can be prevented with just diet and home care."
All Americans should try to schedule regular dental checkups, the American Dental Association (ADA) suggests, in order to make sure that teeth and gums remain healthy, but also to ensure that oral cancers or jaw diseases are not quietly developing.
The ADA advises that adults and children with teeth should floss and brush at least twice a day and avoid sugary foods if possible.
