It's important for people to recognize that dental health is extremely important, and without engaging in proper dental care habits, their overall health will suffer. To have healthy teeth for life, people have to start taking preventative measures at a young age, which is something that more organizations are trying to promote. For example, The San Angelo Standard Times recently reported that more than 500 first-graders at nine elementary schools in San Angelo, Texas, were given kits to prevent tooth decay through the Masonic Home and School of Texas.
The news source stated that the kits contained information on how to care for teeth in both English and Spanish, as well as toothbrushes, toothpaste and dental floss. Furthermore, the kits contained a two-minute timer, which helps kids make sure that they are brushing for the recommended amount of time.
According to the American Dental Hygienists' Association, the average person brushes for 45 seconds. However, if individuals increase that brushing time to two minutes, they are providing 20 percent more enamel protection to their teeth. Children may not be able to gauge how long two minutes is without a timer, and it's important for them to know what is required for proper dental health.
