Some of the many ways to save on oral care

Since the recent Consumer Reports survey showing that many Americans are not getting the dental care they need because it is too costly, many news sources have offered tips for how to save on oral health needs. For example, Telegram.com recently published an article offering some suggestions for how to obtain affordable dental care.

First, the news provider suggested that people shop around to find inexpensive dental care options in their area. According to Telegram, this can include looking up discount dental plans, which ask for an annual membership fee and then connect people to providers who have agreed to work at a discounted rate.

Next, the news source stated that taking good care of teeth at home is the best way to avoid pricey oral care.

"Do brush and floss. Recent research suggests that poor dental health can affect a lot more than your smile. The plaque-causing bacteria on your teeth and gums, for example, could enter your bloodstream and clog arteries," according to the news provider.

Georgia's NBC News affiliate spoke to dentist Andrew Allgood, who warned that neglecting dental health could lead to heart attack, stroke or even death. While this is the worst-case scenario, it underscores the importance of taking care of one's teeth and gums.
