Women may welcome the gift of good oral health
Updated: 5/18/2011 9:00:02 PM

Promoting good oral health may be a great gift for the women in your life When it comes to buying gifts, some men agonize over what to buy women because they want to find the perfect present. As birthdays or anniversaries approach, individuals may consider a gift that is practical in more than one way - good dental health.

Some women avoid seeking oral care because they are worried that dental bills may put financial strain on their families. In this case, husbands and children may consider doing some research to find discounted dental plans or local providers who offer low-cost services. Moms will appreciate the thought and effort that were put into this gift, especially if they love a good bargain.

A recent article published in the Salt Lake Tribune highlighted the lengths that some women will go to in order to receive dental care. According to the newspaper, a 28-year-old Utah woman may be sentenced to time in jail for stealing her sister's identity, so that she could obtain professional oral treatment.

In court, the woman apologized for using false identification and explained that she was in "a lot of pain at the time," and lacked her own dental insurance, the news provider reported.

According to a study conducted by the National Institutes of Health, the majority of California women - 65 percent - do not receive a dental checkup during pregnancy.
