Kansas dental clinic to offer cleanings and fillings for free
Updated: 1/17/2011 7:00:01 PM

A dental clinic in Kansas may treat nearly 1,000 patients a day this weekend. Pain in your teeth that doesn't subside can be a clear signal that one needs to see a dentist, according to the American Dental Association (ADA). For those with no access to dental insurance, seeking immediate help outside of the emergency room can be difficult.

These individuals may be interested to know that free clinics are held across the country to serve the oral needs of low-income and uninsured individuals.

For example, a free dental clinic in Kansas will be held on Kansas State Fairgrounds this weekend. Run by the Kansas Mission of Mercy, the clinic expects to see nearly 1,000 patients each day. The Kansas City Star reports that participants will receive general dental services, including cleanings, fillings and tooth extractions.

Before getting to the point of needing fillings or a tooth pulled, individuals can use a number of simple techniques to maintain their dental health and reduce the risk of tooth decay and disease.

Proper dental care starts with brushing twice a day and flossing at least once a day, the first keys to healthy teeth and gums suggested by the ADA.
