Organizations encourage parents to pay attention to their kids Organizations encourage parents to pay attention to their kids' oral health

Receiving the proper oral care starting from a young age may benefit children once they get older. According to the Pennsylvania Dental Association (PDA), parents should remind their kids about the importance of good dental hygiene, especially as Halloween approaches.

When people consumer snacks and beverages that contain sugar, it could lead to tooth decay. This happens as sugar and bacteria in the mouth attack the teeth each time individuals eat this type of food or drink.

The PDA suggests that people should read labels on foods and beverages and set a goal to reduce the amount of sugar that is consumed through cookies, candy or soft drinks. PDA members also reveal that parents could encourage their kids to donate their Halloween candy so that sugar intake will be cut down.

Other tips, such as limiting snacks between meals, brushing teeth twice a day and scheduling check-ups every six months could also help to prevent oral problems.

Parents who need to schedule regular oral exams for themselves or their kids, but lack coverage, can find low-cost and affordable plans through discount dental plans.
