Sixth annual free dental event benefits New York residents

Sixth annual free dental event benefits New York residents Dentists and other licensed volunteers provided free dental care treatments at a New York-based dentist's office last weekend, which benefited families and individuals with little or no dental insurance coverage.

For the sixth year in a row, more than 300 East Aurora residents received oral hyigene services on behalf of the Westermeier and Martin Dental Care Center, according to WIVB.com. The free treatments totaled approximately $23,000, including dental tools, which were donated by local suppliers.

Patients who received treatments varied from young children of low-income families with little insurance benefits to people who were unemployed and had no dental coverage, the news source reports.

By providing these services, the East Aurora dentists' office is helping underserved people from suffering tooth decay, which can lead to many other dental health complications. In fact, approximately 23 percent of adults aged 20 to 64 years have untreated tooth decay, according to DentalGuideUSA.com

While young patients and families with little or no dental insurance coverage can benefit from attending these types of free events, finding a discount dental plan can provide them with access to a dentist on a regular basis.
