Virginia residents participate in free dental clinic

Virginia residents participate in free dental clinic In an effort to offer dental care services to those with no insurance, officials with the nonprofit organization Dentistry from the Heart put together a free clinic for local Virginia residents on April 10.

As part of the event, a total of nine dentists and 15 dental hygienists and assistants provided cleanings, extractions and fillings to those in need, according to NBC29.com.

"We're offering free dental services for people that are unfortunate," said local dentist John Andre. "People that have lost their jobs - people that can't afford to have dentistry and are in pain."

Andre, who helped serve more than 250 underprivileged Virginians, added that people often put off receiving dental care when money is tight, and the event was an opportunity for the dental community to give back to those adversely affected by the economic recession.

Furthermore, while patients waited to receive care, they had a chance to have their blood pressure and blood sugars checked by medical professionals from the Virginia Blood Services.

Families who are looking to save money on dental care may want to look into discount dental plans, which can save 10 to 60 percent on most dental procedures.
