Oregon dental college vies for $20,000 grant to improve dental care services

Oregon dental college vies for $20,000 grant to improve dental care services Pacific University's College of Dental Health Science, which is one of 16 clinics in the nation competing for five $20,000 grants from Tom's of Maine, has recently announced that it will secure a small portable sterilizer and four Cavitron units if it is awarded funding, the Forest Grove News Times reports.

Earlier this year, Tom's of Maine nominated the 16 clinics that they felt made the biggest difference in their communities by offering inexpensive dental care to low-income families. The five facilities that receive the $20,000 grants will be chosen by consumers, who can vote for the clinic that they think is most deserving.

Pacific's dental college was awarded two previous scholarships from the personal hygiene company in 2007 and 2008. Their program provides dental care services to underserved children, homeless individuals and the elderly.

"I think they've been impressed with the work we've done," said Rowley, quoted by the news source. "What we do here really exemplifies the Tom's mission for public health."

The voting, which can be completed on the Tom's of Maine website, ends on March 12.
