Indiana dental health fair provides free care to needy youth

Indiana dental health fair provides free care to needy youth On February 27, members of the East Central Indiana Dental Hygienists Association (ECIDHA) and employees from Middletown Family Dental participated in the 18th annual Dental Health Fair, where they provided free dental screenings, fluoride treatments and dental health education pamphlets to local kids.

The fair, which took place at the Anderson Public Library in Anderson, Indiana, attracted about 80 local children, of whom approximately 40 received dental screenings, according to the Herald Bulletin. The rest of the kids were given gift bags filled with dental care products.

Rhonda Hecht, a member of the ECIDHA, said the fair was a great opportunity to treat underprivileged children in a non-threatening atmosphere.

"Some of the kids we saw today had never been to a dentist," she said, adding that many of the patients that they treated had not been brushing often enough and had numerous cavities.

Hecht recommended a few local clinics that offer reduced rates to parents, but said that most complimentary dental facilities are run by dental students.
