Two day clinic offers free dental care to Oklahoma community

Over the weekend, more than 1,600 Oklahoma residents made their way to the Tulsa Convention Center for an opportunity to receive free dental care.

The two-day clinic, which was hosted by the Oklahoma Mission of Mercy, had patients lining up two days in advance in hopes of being seen by a volunteer dentist. Several hundred residents were turned away due to the sheer number of people that attended the event.

Most of the people who made their way down to the convention center did not have dental insurance, according to KTUL.com.

"If we don't have dental coverage, we put it off because we have other priorities that come first, like feeding your kids and putting a roof over the house," said Tulsa resident Tammy Campbell, who attended the clinic because she had not been to the dentist in years.

The state of Oklahoma estimates that more than 660,000 residents do not have health or dental insurance.
