One of the most popular anti-aging treatments for tightening and lifting skin is now targeting the delicate tissue around the eye. Thermage® has unveiled a new eye area procedure that allows physicians to tighten and smooth skin texture to give patients younger, brighter eyes without surgery. The treatment involves no cutting, bruising or swelling and patients can wear make-up and return to their regular routine immediately following the procedure. “Eye rejuvenation is by far of greatest interest to our patients considering a cosmetic procedure,” says Dr. Marcy Street, a leading dermatologist and founder of Doctor’s Approach Dermatology & Laser Center. “A lot of women in their 30’s and 40’s are looking for a non-invasive way to smooth the lines and bags around their eyes that can make them look older and tired.”
Thermage® uses radio frequency technology to tighten skin and renew contours non-invasively. The new Eyes by Thermage ™ takes less than an hour to perform and requires no general anesthesia. Patients can benefit from a single treatment with no downtime.
The procedure uses a combination of two Therma Tips. The new, smaller 0.24cm² tip has a shallower heating profile that allows physicians to more effectively and safely stimulate collagen growth in the dermal layer of the skin. The small treatment surface area conforms to the shape of the eye, simplifying the procedure. The new tip is used with a larger, medium-sized tip to give patients more refreshed, youthful looking eyes.
“The tissue around your eyes is the thinnest on your entire body,” says Dr. Street. “This new procedure has been adapted for that fragile skin to soften the wrinkles and crow’s feet as well as reduce the hooding of heavy eyelids.”
Dr. Street has been performing Thermage® on her patients for more than two years. She says while some patients see results immediately, the maximum results become apparent in 2-6 months.
