Orthodontist provides free dental care to 10 students

Due to the current economic climate in the U.S., many American families have decided to put their dental care needs on hold in an effort to save money.

One pair of braces can cost a family as much as $6,000, according to CBS. Because many individuals believe having a straight smile isn't necessary to maintaining good dental health, some families think braces aren't in their best interest.

But aligning teeth is more than just an aesthetic concern, says the American Dental Association. Crooked smiles are often more difficult to clean, meaning some individuals might develop gum disease because they never had braces.

In an effort to provide care to the needy, an orthodontist in the Denver area named Kevin Theroux has decided to offer 10 local children free braces, reports the news source. Furthermore, Theroux says he will hold his Smile for a Lifetime program on an annual basis.

While programs such as Theroux's are a good option for the limited number of families who are chosen to receive free care, many needy people in Colorado and elsewhere will continue to go untreated since most dentists can't afford to offer their services without charging for them.
