On October 24, a dentist in Oregon and his colleagues will be performing free dental care checkups.

The recession has made many services too expensive and unfortunately for some, dental care is one of them. That's why Dr Norm Magnuson does checkups for free up to five times a year, according to ABC affiliate KEZI.

"Especially now with the economy the way it is, it's even harder to afford dental care," said Dr Magnuson to the TV station. "It's the basic dental care that we're taking care of. Fillings and extractions. It's things that can just get people through, until maybe things get better."

According to U.S. News and World Report, there are about 108 million Americans who don't have dental coverage. This means that for every person in this country who doesn't have health insurance, there are between two and three who can't go to the dentist without paying for it themselves.

Dr Magnuson's event is free, but interested parties should know that it is first come, first serve. The first 40 people who come will receive treatment.
