Pregnant women should maintain good dental health

Females have a lot to consider once they become pregnant as many of their actions can affect the health and well-being of the fetus. As a result, it is important that moms-to-be pay attention to their dental health, and to help them out one county is offering free screenings for a limited time.

Since the American Dental Association recommends that patients speak with their dentists and build a good relationship, it is prudent to find a permanent dental care provider, but a free screening can be a good way to assess your dental health.

According to The State Journal, Valley Health in West Virginia is encouraging expectant women to stop in for a dental checkup and teeth cleaning because poor dental health can affect the unborn baby.

"Evidence suggests that dental disease can be transferred from mother to unborn child," explains Valley Health dental director, Dr Andrea Kelly. Similarly, the ADA suggests that pregnant women maintain healthy teeth and gums to help their bodies stay strong, but also to help ensure a healthy delivery.
