 According to the American Dental Association, approximately 466,000 children were given free dental care through the organization's Give Kids A Smile program, which was made possible thanks to the generosity of three national sponsors.
The ADA is calling attention to those sponsors: Henry Schein Dental, Colgate-Palmolive Co. and Dexis Digital X-ray Systems.
"Enrolled through their schools, dental societies and other community groups, the children received X-rays, fillings, cleanings, sealants, educational materials, dental hygiene products and more, all free of charge," said Dr. John S. Findley, ADA president. "The generosity of three national sponsors supported the massive effort again this year."
Henry Schein provided 3,000 dental care product kits containing items for dentists to administer teeth cleanings and dental checkups. One kit had enough material to reportedly serve 50 children.
Colgate donated 300,000 toothbrushes and 300,000 tubes of toothpaste for children at various GKAS events around the country. Finally, Dexis gave one of the company's x-ray system to each of the 56 U.S. dental schools that requested support to hold GKAS event.
Candy Ross, spokesperson for Dexis, said the company has been a founding sponsor of the event because "one man believed and would not give up his dream to help children find dental care."
