Three Tips to Jump-start Your Early Childhood Ed Career
Updated: 1/5/2009 12:00:09 PM
(ARA) - A career in early childhood education can be very rewarding. Early childhood educators are part of the most crucial developmental stages for youngsters, from birth to age 8. The skills children learn in these formative years benefit them throughout their lives, as the building blocks they need to grow into successful adults.

Question: So, how do you become an early childhood educator?

Answer: Get the right education from Kendall College.

Tip 1 - Find a convenient program.

It is important that the program you choose fits your schedule and your career goals.

Kendall offers a Bachelor of Arts in Early Childhood Education both online and on campus. You can also choose to earn your degree with or without Type 04 Illinois Certification. And you can choose from concentrations in infant/toddler or special education.

Tip 2 - Make sure the program meets your state requirements.

With the passing of the "Improving Head Start Act of 2007," advanced education, such as a bachelor's degree, and certification is increasingly required. You should know if your degree program will fulfill all the necessary requirements before enrolling.

Kendall College's B.A. in Early Childhood Education with a Type 04 Illinois Certification fulfills the "Improving Head Start Act of 2007" requirements. Many states' requirements are similar to those of Illinois. However, if you plan to teach outside Illinois, be sure to check with your state's Department of Certification.

Tip 3 - Check for the quality of the college and in the curriculum.

Your degree is more than a piece of paper; it's an investment that can really pay off. Be sure you are getting the most out of your education, and that the school's curriculum is current.

Kendall College is accredited by The Higher Learning Commission and a member of the North Central Association and the Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE). This means that Kendall College's programs meet or exceed the established standards of quality. Moreover, Kendall's Early Childhood Education program features courses designed by leaders in the field. As a Kendall student, you will learn the latest theories and practices from expert educators.

As you embark on your early childhood education degree, keep in mind that your education should enrich your life and be a highly positive experience.
