Dental implants are increasingly becoming America's preferred method of replacing missing teeth, overriding conventional treatments such as bridges and dentures.

Although the process can be costly, implants offer the closest thing to real, healthy teeth.

According to the North-West Indiana and Illinois Times, dental implants are suitable for people of all ages.

It spoke to 18-year-old Alex Cohen who opted for the treatment when faced with losing her front tooth, as it would look natural, be strong enough to bite and chew and not require any follow-up maintenance or replacement.

Meanwhile, 76-year-old Gladys Crossk told the newspaper that she had two implants to stabilize her dentures, which had been causing her discomfort.

Others went further - Juliann Kus, 52, decided to have all of her adult teeth replaced with dental implants, after gum disease led to the extraction of nearly all of her original pearly whites.

Some oral surgeons are now also able to fit dental implants in only two sessions, giving patients the chance to get their smile back in a matter of days rather than months.
