A dental innovation that helps ease the discomfort associated with night-time teeth grinding has made its way over the Atlantic and is now on sale in the US.
Already popular in Italy, Dr Brux is a specialist night guard designed to protect teeth from the wear caused by grinding, which is formally known as bruxism.
The product comes in four different colours and is customizable to every mouth, as it softens when dipped in hot water for six seconds to help it mold to the shape of the mouth.
It is made from a thermoplastic material with two different levels of hardness, the first of which is softer and stays in contact with the teeth and gums.
The second level creates the support needed to protect against teeth grinding and the non-occlusion position of the upper and lower arches.
Mark Neuman, from Premium Dental Supplies, commented: "No effective pharmacological cure or therapy exists for bruxism, except preventing the damage by using a night guard 'made to measure' by the dentist
now there's Dr. Brux, the first alternative night guard 'made to measure' at home".
Bruxism can chip teeth and wear down their protective enamel. If serious enough, it can also cause chronic headaches and jaw disorders.
