Have You Reviewed Your Insurance Coverage Lately?
Updated: 7/30/2007 9:05:36 AM
(ARA) - Had a major life change recently, like moving out on your own for the first time, getting married, welcoming a new baby into the family or purchasing a new car? If so, you're no doubt very busy, but don't use that as an excuse for putting off one of the most important things you can do for yourself and your family.

Anytime you have a major life change, you owe it to yourself to review your insurance needs. You may be able to save money or improve your coverage. Here are some examples of situations in which your coverage needs will change:

* If you've recently gotten married, you're eligible for a lot of new discounts. For example, automotive insurance is a lot cheaper for married people than it is for single ones.  Same goes for home insurance.

* If you've recently had a baby or adopted, you'll need a life insurance policy. If you don't already have one to make sure your dependents will be taken care of in the event that something bad happens to you.

* If you're planning to buy a new home you'll need a home owner's policy lined up to get a mortgage. If you've recently remodeled, you should up your coverage because the improvements will increase the value of your home, and the cost of replacing what you had.

* Premiums offered through group plans have gone up so much in recent years, you may be better off purchasing health coverage on your own.

According to the Insurance Information Institute, you should review your policies at least once a year to make sure your coverage is adequate, but a lot of people put the task off. The most common excuse, it's just too time consuming.

Not so if you go through a service like NetQuote.com which can save you time and money. No need to call up or visit several agents' offices to get rate quotes. Just fill out their form which asks for some  basic information about your insurance needs.

Once you complete the form, NetQuote will match you up with four-to-six companies interested in doing business with you. Some of the contacts will be local agents; others from the big national insurance carriers. They'll all have quotes to offer which you can then compare to make sure you're getting the best deal out there.
