This fall, more than 53 million kids will head back into the classroom. That means millions of moms will be scouring the stores looking to bring their kids back to school in style. But, they won't all be hitting the mall.According to a recent national survey conducted by InsightExpress, sponsored by the Levi Strauss Signature brand, more than half of moms shopping for their families' back-to-school and fall fashion needs are more likely to shop at stores like Wal-Mart, Target and Kmart than all other stores combined.
And in recent years, these retailers have put a renewed emphasis on delivering stylish, quality products at a good value -- and women, in particular, are noticing. In fact, eight out of 10 women agree that there are more clothing and fashion options available at these types of retailers than there used to be five years ago.
For instance, big retailers are answering the demand for premium apparel with brands like Levi Strauss Signature, which features products for the whole family for under $30. A wide range of classic styles and fits are available, and this fall back-to-school shoppers will find a new, boutique-like jean when shopping for the all-important fashion staple. Authentics, a new line from Levi Strauss Signature that is now available at select stores, provides special styling details such as back pocket designs, hand distressing and a variety of light and dark washes to create a vintage-inspired, worn-in look predicted to be hot for fall.
"It used to be almost impossible to find a pair of jeans that were stylish and also affordable," says Leah Feldon, author of "Dress Like a Million . . . On Considerably Less" and "Does This Make Me Look Fat?" "Luckily, these days retailers are making it much easier -- now you can find premium products packed with style at just the right price. That means you can get style and quality no matter what your budget is. That's great news for a lot of women!"
Jeans are the Fall Fashion . . . for Moms
In addition, more than half of moms also acknowledge that they typically buy something for themselves when doing back-to-school shopping. In fact, nearly 70 percent of women tend to spend up to $50 on their own wardrobe, and part of their fall search could entail finding that perfect pair of jeans. This is no easy task, according to the survey, where women reported that jeans are the second most difficult item to fit (25 percent) after bathing suits (43 percent). And, when they search for the perfect pair, the three things most women look for are the right length, the best style and the most flattering rise.
The survey also revealed that jeans are more common than ever. In fact, more than 69 percent of women think it's more acceptable to wear jeans to more occasions than five years ago.
Feldon agrees that jeans are great for any occasion, and offers the following tips to help moms look good in their jeans this fall:
Mix and Match -- Basic jeans look terrific with bold pieces like a striped shirt or an embroidered blouse, and help break up the patterns.
Dress Up --The great thing about jeans is that they can be dressed up or down. For a special night on the town, add a pair of high heels and a slinky satin, sequin, or velvet top to your jeans and you will have instant glam.
Dress Down -- For the ultimate in casual comfort, pair your jeans with a soft cotton tee, a microfleece vest or a sweater.
Accessorize -- Adding a touch of jewelry, a wide large buckled belt, or colorful sash to your jeans will personalize your outfit while creating your own unique version of the hottest looks.
The Vintage Look -- The vintage, worn-in look is popular this season. Find a pair of jeans with a distressed look and pair them with a graphic tee or aged leather bomber jacket.
